Cold, Strep Throat, and Tonsillitis

गुरुदेव स्वामी चिन्मय योगी जी के साथ डॉ सत्यजित साहू
What's the Difference Between a Cold, Strep Throat, and Tonsillitis?

A sore throat is often the first sign of a cold. However, a sore throat from a cold often gets better or goes away after the first day or two. Other cold symptoms such as a runny nose and congestion may follow the sore throat.

Strep throat, which is caused by Streptococcus bacteria, is one of the major causes of sore throats and tonsillitis. With strep throat, the sore throat is often more severe and persists. While a cold goes away on its own, strep throat usually requires antibiotics.

Tonsillitis is a painful infection of the tonsils, the tissue masses located at the back of the throat.

Is a Sore Throat With a Cold Caused by a Virus or Bacteria?

Sore throats can be caused by viruses or bacteria. To determine the cause of your sore throat, your doctor may do a strep test. However, there may be some clues. Viral sore throats are often accompanied by other cold symptoms that may include a runny nose, cough, red or watery eyes, and sneezing.

Along With a Sore Throat, What are Other Cold Symptoms?

In addition to a sore throat, other common cold symptoms include:

• Runny nose

• Sneezing

• Cough

• Headache

• Nasal congestion

• Fever, which may or may not be present and which is more likely in children

How Are Sore Throats With Colds Treated?

While there is no cure for a sore throat caused by a cold virus, to speed healing of your sore throat and cold, be sure to get enough rest. Eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of fluids can also help speed healing.

Can Medications Relieve Symptoms of a Sore Throat With a Cold?

Over-the-counter cold medications may relieve cold and sore throat symptoms. However, the benefits of these drugs are minimal. Some cold medications include:

• Pain relievers, such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen, to relieve the aches and pains of a cold and sore throat. (Aspirin should not be given to children under the age of 18 because of its link to Reye's syndrome, a disorder that mostly affects children 4 to 12 years old and causes brain damage and death.)

• Sore throat sprays and lozenges to soothe your throat and numb the throat pain temporarily.

• Decongestant nasal sprays to relieve a sore throat caused by postnasal drip -- nasal drainage that runs down your throat. (Be sure to stop using nasal decongestant sprays after three days, or you may have an increase in congestion when you stop them.)

Antibiotics should not be used to treat a cold virus and sore throat. Antibiotics are effective only against bacteria. They will not work on sore throats associated with colds, which are caused by viruses, and may cause future infections to be worse and last longer.

How Is Strep Throat Different From a Sore Throat With a Cold?

Strep throat, an infection in the throat and tonsils, is caused by the Streptococcus bacterium. Strep throat spreads by having close contact with an infected person and/or sharing an infected person's personal items. While strep throat is common in children ages 5 to 13, it also occurs in adults.

Is Strep Throat More Serious Than a Sore Throat With a Cold?

Strep throat can cause more serious illnesses, such as rheumatic fever, a disease that may harm the heart valves. That's why it's important to get proper medical treatment. With proper treatment, strep throat is usually cured within 10 days.

Are Strep Throat Symptoms Different From a Sore Throat With a Cold?

Strep throat symptoms are usually more severe than symptoms of a sore throat with a cold and may include the following:

• Sudden sore throat

• Loss of appetite

• Painful swallowing

• Red tonsils with white spots

• Fever

• Headache

Do I Need to See my Doctor if I Think I Have Strep Throat?

If you have symptoms of strep throat, visit your health care provider. You will be examined and may be given a strep test. If signs of strep throat are very clear, your health care provider may start antibiotic treatment immediately.

What Is a Strep Test for a Sore Throat?

A strep test looks for Streptococcus bacteria in the throat. The test is painless and takes very little time. The tip of a cotton swab is used to wipe the back of the throat. The swab is then tested. If the strep test is positive, you have strep throat. If the strep test is negative, no signs of Streptococcus were found. Still, the throat culture is not always correct. If there are strong signs of strep throat, your health care provider may decide to start treatment, even if the test was negative.

What Is the Treatment for Strep Throat?

Strep throat is treated using antibiotics, which kill the bacteria causing the infection. Antibiotics are often taken as pills or given as a shot. Penicillin and amoxicillin are common antibiotics used to treat strep throat. Other antibiotics are prescribed for people who are allergic to penicillin.

Antibiotics for strep throat are usually taken for seven to 10 days. Follow your health care provider's instructions. Take all of the medication, even if you feel better. You should feel better within a day or two, but the bacteria can still be alive even if you feel okay.

What if my Strep Throat Isn't Getting Better?

If your strep throat is not getting better, let your health care provider know right away. Do not stop taking your medicine unless your health care provider tells you to. Call your health care provider if these strep throat symptoms occur:

• Fever one or two days after feeling better

• Nausea or vomiting

• Earache

• Headache

• Skin rash

• Cough

• Swollen glands

• Painful joints

• Shortness of breath

• Dark urine, rash, or chest pain (may occur three to four weeks later)

How Is Tonsillitis Different Than a Sore Throat With a Cold?

Sometimes a sore throat is caused by tonsillitis, an inflammation of the tonsils. Tonsillitis can be caused by viruses or bacteria. While the tonsils' job is to help fight infection, the tonsils can also become infected. When they do, the result is tonsillitis and a very painful sore throat.

How Are Tonsillitis Symptoms Different Than Symptoms of a Sore Throat With a Cold?

In addition to a sore throat, a cold usually causes nasal symptoms, such as runny nose or congestion. With tonsillitis, your tonsils become swollen and may have telltale white or yellow spots. Other symptoms with tonsillitis include the following:

• Bad breath

• Fever

• Voice changes because of swelling

• Painful swallowing

• Swollen lymph glands in neck

How Is a Sore Throat From Tonsillitis Treated?

If the tonsillitis infection is bacterial like strep throat, then antibiotics are given. If the tonsillitis infection is viral, antibiotics will not help. The virus must run its course for the sore throat to resolve. For either type of throat infection, the following treatment measures may help:

• Getting plenty of rest

• Drinking lots of fluid

• Eating smooth, soothing foods like gelatin, ice cream, shakes, frozen desserts, and soup

• Avoiding crunchy or spicy foods

• Using a vaporizer

• Taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen, naproxen, or ibuprofen. Children should NOT take aspirin.

If antibiotics do not cure the bacterial tonsil infection, if the tonsillitis infections occur repeatedly, or if the tonsils are interfering with sleep and breathing, the doctor may recommend a tonsillectomy, which is the surgical removal of the tonsils.

Defending Astrology in the Supreme Court

yogimoorkhanand and k n rao 1984
Defending Astrology in the Supreme Court

K.N. Rao: More important during this period was the Supreme Court case against astrology. A judicial case first started in Madras, and no astrologer went there as a petitioner in person, which the Indian law allows. Fortunately, it was dismissed on initial grounds. There was another case in the Andhra high court and it was also dismissed on initial grounds. South Indians who are said to be proud of their Indian culture never took even the slightest interest in defending astrology. That was the most disgraceful part.

Then, K. Padmanabhaiah, a scientist and a rich man who lost the case in Andhra Pradesh, decided to appeal to the Supreme Court. I personally appealed to astrologers from all over India to file petitions as petitioners in person. They promised they would come and file petitions. This number was 60-80 astrologers. But, when the case was finally admitted, I was the only one. There was no one else from the country. When the case was being called on the merits, again I was the only one. There was not even another astrologer in the audience at the court hearing the case, other than two of my teachers from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. You can understand the level of hypocrisy. These people talk about the great rishi tradition of India, but when it actually comes to showing solidarity to fight for astrology not one man came.

I fought this case despite my sickness, since I had not been well after the year 2000. But anyway, by God’s grace, I went and fought it and today astrology is legally protected in the country. Now for the first time in the history of India, astrology is being taught as a regular subject in the university. Over 20 universities are now teaching astrology classes. That is a big achievement. In that sense I have completed my mission. There is nothing left now. At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan we have a tradition of teaching, a tradition of producing research, a tradition of writing books and publishing them. And all this we have been able to achieve with only a two-day weekend course of maximum three hours per day. That is the most remarkable part. The universities have five-day per week courses at five hours a day and they hardly achieve anything. We have achieved so much. That is God’s will, that is the vision of Moorkhanandji.

A Fragmented Jyotish Tradition

Vaughn Paul: So this is a cornerstone of your teaching of astrology, this research-based, academic approach. Can you explain more about that?

K.N. Rao: What you must know is that in the year 1834, when the English rule began to introduce English education, they totally destroyed the Sanskrit legacy and tradition in the process. That has not been resurrected till this day. There is no Sanskrit tradition, there is no Sanskrit parampara, there is no astrology tradition, and there is no astrology parampara. The only small rudimentary parampara that still exists is the karmakanda parampara where they do rituals for marriage and other events, etc. Nothing more. Everything the Englishman systematically destroyed by introducing English education. That was the mischief, that was the intention. This can be best understood by what Thomas Babington Macaulay stated in his speech of February 02, 1835, in the British Parliament. Please see this quote:

"I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief, such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such high caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation."

So what happened was that the educated class, the Brahmins, had taken to western English education quickly, they distinguished themselves, but the Sanskrit tradition, which astrology was traditionally a part of, got destroyed totally. Brahmins who remained in the countryside, and did not have the benefit of an English education, became neglected. They eked out a living out of the fragments of their knowledge of karmakanda and some rudimentary astrology. In both of the National Commissions for Backwards Classes of India (Kaka Kalelkar’s in 1955 and B. P. Mandal’s in 1978), astrologers have been classified as a backward class.

So those of us who are now doing astrology have inherited a fragmented tradition. In the year 1901 we had 10% male literacy and ½% female literacy. Such was the miserable condition. There was never any question of any Jyotish tradition. People make all kinds of claims about Jyotish paramparas, but don’t believe them. It all got destroyed basically. Then, slowly it got revived. Dr. Raman’s grandfather B. Suryanarayan Rao and some others revived it in South India. In Andhra Pradesh, people brought out small booklets in Telegu, the local language. In northern India it was revived in Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bombay. In Lahore they brought out books in Urdu. Slowly they brought them out, but there was no tradition. It was all in fragments. Whatever book I got I read.

The PACDARES Method by K. N. Rao

gurudev shri rajat bose ji (swami chinmaya yogi)
The PACDARES Method
(by K. N. Rao)

Vaughun paul: You mentioned just a moment ago about PACDARES. Can you talk about this approach that you developed?

K.N. Rao: I’ll tell you. All the old astrologers that I used to see in my childhood made use of a brilliant approach. I saw my mother also doing this. They never coined any expressions to explain it, but over the course of time I thought about it. When I was teaching, the demand from students was to have a clear cut, systematic approach. They were reading books and getting confused. They would say Saturn in the 7th house means destruction, Rahu in the 7th house means bad marriage. I would tell them this is all nonsense, don’t go by that. Instead take a total synthesis. How do you make a total synthesis? I said ‘P’ is for a where a planet is placed or posited. ‘A’ is for how it is aspected. ‘C’ is for conjunctions. Therefore it is called PAC. Out of these some yogas emerge. ‘D’ is for dhana yoga, money. ‘A’ is for arishta yoga, arishta is mishaps, illness, etc. ‘R’ is for raja yoga, getting high positions in life. ‘E’ is for exchanges, like the lord of the 2nd in the 4th, and lord of the 4th in the 2nd, etc. ‘S’ is for special features, which every horoscope has. Now look at this and synthesize the whole thing by doing PAC. Out of this emerges DARES. This framework you keep in your mind.

Now look at the dasha system and you see when a particular event is to take place according to these yogas. Hindu astrology is a dasha and yoga approach. The moment you forget that the system is destroyed. You must know how to make use of the dashas, because the dashas are the dynamic fructification of a promised event. The yogas show the promised event, while the dashas show when it is going to be fulfilled. So unless you do PACDARES you cannot develop any astrological skill at all.

So I evolved this tabulation because I saw all the experienced astrologers taking these steps, even though they never expressed it. But I knew they had it, so I systematized the whole thing. When I was teaching students they found it very easy to understand. They had come from a good educational background, so they wanted to understand everything systematically. They also wanted to interlink different things in a horoscope. So I said to do PACDARES, then you are able to interlink.

There is a second stupid controversy that was created by some Indian astrologers here. They say to not see aspects in vargas. That is wrong. The entire book Jataka Bharanam is based only on the interpretation of vargas, particularly the navamsha and aspects in the navamsha. Brilliant predictions come out of that. So see aspects also in varga charts. You’ll get very good results.

Astrology and management

ASTROLOGY,HAND ANALYSIS, MANAGEMENT SCIENCE AND BUSINESS PROSPECTS

In this article, I will do my level best to explain how scientific astrology and Hand Analysis (Scientific Palmistry) can help people to be better professional managers and business leaders. I specialise in Hindu (Indian) Astrology and Indian Palmistry.

The Astrology I will be describing has nothing to do with newspaper so-called "Astrology". Newspaper astrology with its vague, generalised predictions has no relevant connection at all with the serious study of Astrology, a proper mathematical horoscope is based upon the date, time and birth of the subject.

I will briefly explain how Astrology and Hand Analysis work. Astrology and Palmistry are the oldest Sciences of the world. These Sciences are at least 6,000 years old and originated in India. The lines in the hand come from the MIND. The Mind in turn acts through the BRAIN. They are definitely not formed by hand movements. The hand is the mirror of the mind. The Conscious Mind reveals the Past and Present. But the Subconscious Mind tells the FUTURE as it has no limitations of TIME and SPACE. LATENT TALENTS are shown in the hand because of the Subconscious Mind.

Let us now analyze the rationale of Astrology. Science knows of three (3) fields of energy. They are Electrical, Magnetic and Gravitational. Our bodies are also made up of these three (3) fields of energy.

The planets are constantly moving among themselves. Changes in the magnetic, electrical and gravitational fields of the planets affect our own three (3) fields of energy. This is the basis of Scientific Astrology. It is from the study of planetary forces that an astrologer is able to make interpretations in terms of human psychology, business prospects, leadership qualities, etc. Astrology is a mathematical science based on Astronomy. Astrology and Palmistry are twin1 inter-related Sciences.

Let us now study the MOUNTS of the hand. See FIGURE 1 for guidance.

J = Jupiter Mount

S = Saturn Mount

A = Sun (Apollo) Mount

M = Mercury Mount

LM = Lower Mars Mount

UM = Upper Mars Mount

V = Venus Mount

M* = Moon Mount

Figure 1

The Mounts are named after the planets that rule human destiny. The muscular pads that are found on the palm below the fingers are called the MOUNTS. They are not to be confused with CALLUSES on the hand. In many cases, the mounts may be displaced. The mounts are formed by the mind acting under the influence of the planets. They are definitely not formed by hand work. Many labourers have flat mounts while intellectuals often have well developed mounts.

Let us study professions from the mounts and the planets.

• Sun

This planet deals with government service, timber, forest contracts, wool, medicine, banking and goldsmiths. It is the significator of MANAGEMENT.

• Moon

It represents shipping, import-export, food business, milk products confectionery, bakery, plastics and catering.

• Mars

It represents development of land1 copper, any manufacturing where fire is used, machine tools1 ornament factories, hardware goods, chemists, druggists and dentists.

• Mercury

It represents the middle-men, accountancy, stationery, printing, publishing, radio and other communication media, auditing and interpreters.

• Jupiter

It represents lawyers, judges, counsellors, teachers, professors, the clergy, the treasury, temples and churches. It has a lot to do with leadership qualities.

• Venus

The professions and business connected with Venus are: silks and expensive textiles, interior decoration, coffee planting, tea estate owning, gemstones, photography, engraving, cartoonist, music, embroidery, flower selling, beautician and perfumes.

• Saturn

This planet indicates miners, coal and fuel of every petroleum, real estate business, building contractors, agriculture, heavy machinery, iron, tin, lead, oil seeds, leather goods, hides, excavators and time-pieces.

Here are some signs of the hand.

Let us now study the lines of the hand. Kindly look at Figure 2.

Figure 2 - some lines of the hand

The Fate Line is also called the Line of Saturn. This line shows the material prospects of the subject and his attitude towards his career. Major developments in material circumstances and career are reflected on this line. Thus, a change of company would be shown by a break in the Fate Line. The Fate Line or Saturn Line comes under the influence of the planet Saturn. The SUN LINE is also called the Apollo Line. This line shows the time when the subject feels that his talents are being recognised, and that important ambitions have been achieved. Thus it reveals the period when "sunshine" enters the life of the subject. Thus a CEO who is happy with his job and whose work is appreciated by the Board of Directors will have a deep, clear Sun Line at the corresponding age. The Sun Line comes under the influence of the planet Sun.

The Line of Mercury has a lot to do with business prospects. It should be long and well defined in the hand. Then, with other relevant hand features, it can show bright business prospects and an aptitude for the business world. But should this line be wavy, badly islanded or laddered, the person, with other negative hand features, cannot be an entrepreneur. It would be wise for such a subject to stick to service.

Now let us consider Astrology. Look at Figure 3. It shows the Zodiac Signs and planets. Note that the planet Mars rules the Zodiac Signs of Aries and Scorpio. Venus rules the Zodiac Signs of Taurus and Libra, and so on. Always take the count clockwise. This diagram is based on the pattern of the Southern India School of Astrology.

The next diagram (Figure 4) shows the HOUSE INDICATIONS OF A COMPANY. A horoscope is cast for a company chart when the contract or business is SET INTO NOTION. A method of determining the birth of a company that is not legally incorporated is to cast a company horoscope based on the time it opens its doors for business. Date, time and town of birth - these three (3) factors are required before a mathematical company horoscope can be cast.

If we are interested in investments, we would like to know something about the future of the company or public body, etc. in which we intend to invest our money. As the planets definitely influence the lines of individuals1 it is logical to assert that they also shape the lines of nations1 or companies. After all, these are also made up of a group of individuals. Experience has proved beyond all reasonable doubt that the planets influence the future of companies to a significant degree.

Figure 4

L represents the Ascendant or Lagna as it is called in Sanskrit. The Ascendant refers to the Sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth of a company or the individual. In this sample horoscope, Jupiter and Moon are setting in the Lagna or Ascendant in the Zodiac Sign of Aries. The Ascendant always represents the FIRST HOUSE of the horoscope.

These are the house indications of a company in detail: -

• First House

The nature of the enterprise, its individuality and leadership. It also represents the stockholders.

• Second House

Finance and other resources.

• Third House

Short journeys, business relations with neighbouring countries, advertising, company correspondence in general.

• Fourth House

The original house of the company, investments in land.

• Fifth House

Speculative activities, educational enterprises, workshops and seminars.

• Sixth House

The state of employees, their efficiency, their physical health and labour problems.

• Seventh House

Business partnership, mergers, relations with the public in a variety of ways.

• Eighth House

Loans and other credits, the treasurer of the company, the board of directors.

• Tenth House

The reputation of the executive heads, the CEO.

• Eleventh House

The quality of the goods, friendly organizations and intangible assets.

• Twelfth House

Secret enemies, subversive activities, research and development.

Now let us see what the planets influence specifically in FINANCIAL ASTROLOGY.

• Sun

Gold and gold mining shares.

• Moon

Silver and the silver market, instability of share quotations, women working for the company.

• Mars

Panic booms and slumps, especially those caused by war scares, the pioneering urge.

• Neptune

The company image, the vision of the CEO, mysterious developments in industry and trade

• Pluto

Rising labour consciousness, social security measures like health insurance, profit sharing, the concept of nationalisation.

When analysing the affairs of countries, we should consider the Ascendants for various countries listed below:

"Any possibility I can be a multi-millionaire?"

FINANCIAL ASTROLOGY is absolutely brilliant for strategic and tactical planning. Let us consider an example. Supposing a client consults a reputable accomplished astrologer and palmist. The client wants to know if he can become and entrepreneur. An astro-palmist is one who is well versed in both the Sciences of Astrology and Palmistry. The astro-palmist studies the hand features and sees that the Mercury Line, representing business, is well formed in both hands. This is confirmed by the strong position of the planets representing business in the birth chart or horoscope. The astrologer says, "Yes, you can safely start a business venture." The client then asks the astrologer, "Any possibility I can be a multi-millionaire?" The astrologer is able to see signs of great wealth in the hands. Also, he knows that there are favourable "Yogas" for wealth, like Lakshmi "Yoga" in the birth chart. "Yoga" is a term in Hindu (Indian) Astrology meaning a planetary combination. Lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of Wealth. The astrologer, "Yes, you will definitely be a multi-millionaire by the age of 45." So this is strategic planning. The client now has a vision and has the confidence to work towards a long-term goal.

Now we come to the tactical planning to realise this worthy goal. The client now asks, "But what business suits me?" The astrologer says, "The planet MOON is well placed in Cancer in your birth chart. Your Ascendant is also in CANCER. So you will do well in the shipping business. This is confirmed by a well-formed Mount of Moon in your hands. There are vertical lines and favourable triangles on the Moon Mount in both hands."

The client now asks, "With which country shall I trade?" The astrologer replies, "As Cancer represents China, Holland, Canada or New Zealand, and it is in your Ascendant, you will do well by trading with any of these countries." Hence a specific country has been pinpointed by making use of Mundane (Political) Astrology.

The client now asks, "When shall I start the business?" By studying the client's birth chart, the astrologer can select the exact day and minute when the business can be launched.

CORRECT TIMING is all-important for a Business Company. All objects in nature are produced in TIME, developed in TIME and destroyed in TIME. The time chosen to launch a company will influence to a significant degree the events affecting the company as it progresses.

There is a branch of astrology called ELECTIONAL ASTROLOGY. Elections refers to times chosen by astrologers for the initiation of any work or enterprise of importance, the beginning of journeys, signing of contracts and agreements, getting married, etc. Thus Electrical Astrology deals with initiating auspicious times to get the most favourable results. It is interesting to note that a leading American business astrologer was offered a cool million American dollars to work under exclusive contract to a consortium of venture capitalists.

A leading American business astrologer also has a sound knowledge of Hindu (Indian) astrology. A few years ago, he helped a California biotechnology company that was facing a severe cash crisis. This unhappy situation arose because a silent American investor did not keep his promise and deliver a promised cash infusion. This astrologer selected an exact favourable Astrological Time to send a telex to a Japanese investment company. The California company got a favourable response from the Japanese company the same day. The company was saved from bankruptcy and is now viable.

It is an astrological truth that a company launched at the wrong time will collapse after a short time or encounter enormous unnecessary difficulties. Astrologers disagree with management experts that the collapse of a company was due either to insufficient capitalization or a weak business plan. If a company is launched at the wrong time, a heavy injection of capital will NOT save the company.

Why is it so important to choose the right time to launch a company? This is because choosing the right astrological time to start a company will generate so much positive energy as to neutralize all other negative factors and thus ensure success of the enterprise. The precise time - even to the minute - of launching a new company cannot be determined by Management Science. Only FINANCIAL ASTROLOGY can supply this deep-seated BUSINESS WISDOM of ACCURATE TIMING.

There is a time to sow and a time to reap. There are many secrets of setting up a favourable ASTROLOGICAL CORPORATION CHART. These secrets are largely unknown to the "GURUS" of Management Science in the Western world. One important secret when starting a new company is that it should be launched during the period of the expanding MOON. This is the period of 15 days from the time of the New Moon to the Full Moon. There are many other secrets, but this is a basic factor which can never be ignored. Thus, there is a time to go into business, and a time to avoid it, a time to look for a position and a time not to look for it.

Let us now consider the question of BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP. The 7th House deals with business partnership, while the 10th House represents profession. As the 10th House governs trade, commerce and business activities, and many businessmen do business with business partners, we must study the 7th House in the birth chart of the subject. Those natives (subjects) having malefics or naturally evil planets like Mars, and Saturn in the 7th House should not have a business partnership. Either the partner will let him down, the partnership will be broken or there will be a financial loss. Often the partners quarrel among themselves. It is my original research that sometimes the partners do not quarrel. And yet the business does not progress until the partnership is broken. The explanation could be that there are elusive astrological factors stopping the business from progressing.

A business partnership should never be started unless there are many favourable 7th House factors in the birth chart of the client. The astrologer has to decide: Is partnership desirable or undesirable? If the answer is negative, the client should not start a business partnership under any circumstances.

"There is nothing in the three worlds for knowledge besides the hand, which is given to mankind like a book to read"

I have had many years of experience in analyzing business partnerships for my clients. Many of my clients are Chinese and they are fond of business partnership in Singapore and Malaysia. It is common "wisdom" that having business partnerships is either a must or desirable. Management Science says that many businesses cannot expand without a business partnership. Many clients have consulted reputable management consultants who advised them to go into business partnerships. Yet, when the 7th House was badly afflicted in the birth chart, invariably the client came to grief as a result of listening to the management consultant. Management consultants would be able to give more perceptive and accurate advice on this subject of business partnership if they had sound knowledge of FINANCIAL ASTROLOGY.

There is an easy way to tell from the hands that the person should avoid a business partnership. If there is a mole or spot on the 2nd or 3rd phalanges of Mercury or little finger, the person should avoid a business partnership. Please refer to Figure 2. A mole on the Mercury Mount which is the mount under the little finger will give the same result. Management consultants having such features in their hands themselves suffered heavy financial losses when they ventured into business partnerships.

Scientific Palmistry and Astrology can me most useful in terms of personnel selection. The hand has a psychological significance and it helps in psycho-analysis. One key to the MIND is the HANDS, a perfect MIRROR giving insight into the working of the human mind. People can easily change facial expressions. But they cannot change the palm lines instantly. The hand reveals the candidate as he is, not as how may pretend to be. The hand is a useful tool by way of self-assessment and self-development. Professions and trade for which a person is fitted can be read from the hand by a careful, thorough examination of the dominant finger and the MOUNT at the base of it. We also have to study the Head Line (Line of Mentality) and the thumb.

Scientific methods of personnel selection may not be sufficient to assess the true nature and potential of the candidate. RESUMES may be a combination of white lies on white paper. The world would be marvellous if all new candidates lived up to half of the promise made on their resumes.

Personnel managers cannot afford to make mistakes in personnel selection. Doctors bury their mistakes, but the mistakes of the Personnel Department may have to be transferred to other departments! The worker may even decide to sue the company. RODGER's 7 point plan and FRASER's 5 point plan may not reveal the true capabilities of the candidate. The personnel department has a most difficult task. It deals with PEOPLE, the only aspect of the business industry which has not improved over the last 200 years. Personnel managers are the prime movers of people. We all know how difficult it is to get some people to move! Scientific Astrology and Hand Analyst (Palmistry) can be very useful tools indeed in supplementing the Scientific methods of personnel selection, like the Interview, the Job Application Form, the Resume and Psychological Tests. What a criminal waste if the wrong person is given an important job position for which he has no aptitude! The best use of human resources is essential to the national interest. Astrology and Hand Analysis can help the Personnel Department tremendously in finding the right people in the right job at the right time.

Let us take a concrete example. The MOUNT connected with PERSONNEL is the SATURN MOUNT. Kindly look at Figure 1 again. This mount is influenced by the planet Saturn. It is placed under the second or long middle finger. The following favourable signs strengthen the SATURN MOUNT - triangle, square, trident and a clear vertical line. Should the SATURN MOUNT be normally developed with favourable signs on it and the JUPITER MOUNT also be favourable, the person can do well as a PERSONNEL MANAGER.

He will enjoy his work and have a natural aptitude for choosing the right staff for the right jobs. Thus the PERSONNEL MANAGER must be a POSITIVE SATURNIAN. The Saturnian has a well-developed, long middle (Saturn) finger. It should be long and straight. Preferably, the other fingers should LEAN on the Saturn finger. Then if the Saturn Mount is also favourable, then the subject is a TRUE, POSITIVE SATURNIAN.

The Jupiter Mount is found under the FIRST (index) finger. It represents LEADERSHIP. The planet SATURN represents SUBORDINATES. So we can easily understand why a combination of favourable Jupiter and Saturn Mounts will make a candidate suitable for the very important position of PERSONNEL MANAGER. A GRILLE on the Saturn Mount will weaken it, and surely make the Personnel Manager most miserable in his job.

All this can be confirmed by the horoscope on birth chart. An outstanding Personnel Manager will have the planets Jupiter and Saturn well placed in strong houses and favourable Zodiac signs. Also the planet Saturn will have some connection by aspect or conjunction, with the 10th House, the House of Profession, is astrology. The connection may be direct or indirect.

In astrology, the 6th House deals with personnel. It reveals the working conditions of employees, and labour disturbances. A successful Personnel Manager should have STRONG, favourable 6th House. If malefic (evil planets) like MARS and RAHU are sitting in the 6th House, the Personnel Manager will have frequent trouble with employees. RAHU is called "CAPUT DRACONIS" by Western astrologers.

The head of an international executive search firm estimates that as many as 20% of the large German, Swiss and Scandinavia firms get an astrological reading on executive candidates before hiring them. But the Board of Directors will never admit openly. For is someone wanted to make trouble for a company, a shareholder could call a meeting and say the Board of Directors took advice from an astrologer!

The palms and horoscope of metaphorically X-ray the candidate's mind. The existing methods of personnel selection in modern management are excellent. But if they are supplemented by the judicious use of Scientific Astrology and Hand Analysis, the Personnel Manager will become a BLACK BELT in Management Science. The time will surely come when Astrology and Palmistry will be widely and openly used on the recruitment of managers. The Personnel Management will be based on the HIRING AND FIRING BY THE STARS!

Let us now consider the question of LEADERSHIP. Are leaders born or made? This is indeed a perplexing question. A manager need not necessarily be a leader. But an effective leader can also be a good manager. Combinations showing leadership in Astrology and Hand Analysis can be strengthened by training.

Figure 5

Look at Figure 5. It shows the typical hand features of an outstanding effective business and management leader.

These are the features:

a. The head line (Line of Mentality) starts from the Mount of Jupiter.

b. A clear long branch of the Head Line rises to the Mount of Jupiter.

c. The Sun Line ends on the Jupiter Mount.

d. The Fate Line ends on the Jupiter Mount.

e. This refers to the Jupiter Mount. It will be well formed and elevated in the hand.

Confirmation will surely be provided by the horoscope. This leader will have the planet Jupiter very strongly and favourable placed in the chart. As Sun represents Management Science, the planet Sun will also be very well placed in the chart. Thus Jupiter could be exalted in the Zodiac Sign of CANCER, while Sun will be exalted in Aries.

Let us consider Astrology with regards to DECISION MAKING. Experts say that these elements go into making a decision, defining the problem, gathering relevant information and logically analyzing the data. Then the options are weighed and analyzed. The work of a manager is constant decision making. What to do, how to do it, when to do it, and sometimes even who to blame when it doesn't work!

Astrology will definitely help the manager make better decisions. The correct interpretation of the birth chart correlated preferably with the company chart will tell the manager which is the best option to pursue. The one correct decision to make will be revealed in the horoscope with startling accuracy. If the manager is thinking of making a major decision, and his planetary position is bad, the wise manager will delay making the decision. Once the decision is made based upon a deep interpretation of the horoscope, the manager can have the confidence that it is a very high probability or near certainty the outcome would be a success. As the horoscope sees the FUTURE, it is possible to integrate the past, present and future through the Science of Astrology.

Management experts say that it may be necessary to fail often before you succeed. With the aid of Astrology, the percentage of wrong decisions will be drastically reduced. The horoscope and palms see very deep into the factors, that constitute the elements of decision making. It is fair comment to say that Astrology sees much further than modern management science as regards decision making. With Astrology, a manager can implement a decision on a specific day at a very precise time, thus increasing radically the chances of success.

It is a fact that the Stock Market is influenced by planetary forces. The 5th House in a birth chart refers to speculation. If the 5th House and its ruler are severely afflicted, the person should avoid speculation totally. If the 5th House and its ruler are favourably disposed, the person can gain considerably from speculation. The gains van be substantial if the person runs a favourable planetary period.

The billionaire financier, J P MORGON, used to consult Evangeline Adams regularly regarding Stock Market investments. Evangeline Adams was a famous American astrologer. J P Morgan, a hard-nosed financial wizard, made this memorable statement "Millionaires don't hire astrologers, billionaires do." On 08/08/1987, Crawford, a business astrologer, wrote that a terrible Stock Market crash would soon take place. Events proved him right, while many reputable Stock Market analysts did not foresee the 1987 crash that shook the world's Stock Markets.

"There is nothing like a horoscope for the acquisition of wealth, it is a boat in a sea of troubles, and it is a guide in the journey of life"

Within the next 50 years of so, the ancient Science of Astrology will regain dignity and respect it commended in the past. Emperors, Kings, Statesmen and at least 6 Popes were happy to propagate Astrology. Unfortunately, along came the quacks who made a laughing stock of Astrology. The Science fell into gross disrepute. But with the advent of the Computer Age, astrology will make a major come-back. The computer cannot interpret the chart, but it can give the mathematical planetary positions within a few minutes.

Astrology is invaluable in predicting earthquakes, planning agricultural operations, vocational counselling, and as a brilliant tool in business management. The areas in life to which Astrology can be applied are practically limitless. Astrology attracted the attention of Dr Albert Einstein, Aristotle, Acero, Claudius Ptolemy, Sir Isaac Newton as well as great thinkers of the East.

Astrology will help the manager to gain an insight into individual motive and character which no other science can afford. He will not become obsessed by ambitions beyond his power to achieve. He will not invest capital where interest will not be secured. He will be in the happy position of seeing the end from the beginning. He will find causes for inexplicable things. He will be able to foresee and make use of all benefit influences operating through his own environment. There are certain things which even the most brilliant manager cannot foresee, but these are often seen clearly in the horoscope.

Prejudice and Ignorance are the twin giants that block the path of the world's progress. The Light of Reason and the Arrows of Truth are slowly defeating them. All that is necessary to determine the sublime truth of Astrology as a Science is a fair, thorough investigation, of its methods and principles by scientific men.

Astrology is a supra science, the Science of Sciences. By ignoring it, Management Science is the poorer for it. There will be a revolution in Management thinking once Astrology is widely practised by managers. In the future, the wise manager will combine the wisdom of Astrology with the techniques of modern Management Science. Thus he will get the best of both worlds. Reading hundreds of books on Management Science does not necessarily give Business Wisdom. But definitely there is a lot of Business wisdom in a horoscope. This Business Wisdom can be revealed to the subject with the interpretation and help of a highly competent business astrologer.

Kalidas, a famous ancient Sanskrit poet and astrologer said thousands of years ago, "There is nothing in the three worlds for knowledge besides the hand, which is given to mankind like a book to read". Another ancient Indian astrologer wrote, "There is nothing like a horoscope for the acquisition of wealth, it is a boat in a sea of troubles, and it is a guide in the journey of life"

significations with the houses

bama-khepa
What is to be seen from which House

So far what has been given is the spiritual aspects associated with each house from the lagna. These days more and more people have generally two additional questions to ask, the first about their spiritual life and the other about their ailments.

The other traditionally associated significations with the houses have been given in detail in many books, fortunately now available in translation in English.

But it is necessary to sound a warning here, do not take any of the interpretations given in them as being dogmatic and unalterable. This mistake is committed by some Indians who do not make an in-depth study of astrology and study other techniques. What are given in these classics are aids to predictions, not predictions themselves. Keeping this forewarning in the mind it will be useful to know what each house represents.

The Lagna

One is born in a particular sign, which is his lagna and therefore the first house. His personality will partake of the characteristics of those signs, which will be discussed later.

The First House

The first house represents the physical body, good or ill-health, the early part of life, the personal development of the child and the character as a whole.

The Second House

It is known as kutumba or the family of one’s parents and is to be seen for speech, the food one eats, the money one gets and also death.

The Third House

Traditionally, this house is to be seen for brothers and sisters, short journeys, letters and quick writing. But these days it is necessary to examine it for sports, artistic talents, and business agencies also. The

Fourth House

Mother, land, conveyances, happiness are the traditional subject to be seen from the fourth house. Extending it, a doctor’s clinic, an artist’s studio, a philanthropist’s trust and an industrialist’s factories are the modern additions.

The Fifth House

It is the house of education (though some take the fourth house as education) intelligence, children and the power of discrimination. The

Sixth house

Diseases, opposition, debts, injuries are the negative factors associated with this house. On the positive side, accumulation of wealth (it being the second of the artha trine), sports, adventures and father’s profession are seen from this house.

The Seventh House

Traditionally, marriage but these days living together, therefore wife, lover, sex life are associated with this house. These days, it should be seen for business and business partnership, foreign countries, and even settlement abroad and death.

The Eighth house

Legacies, inheritance, sudden financial gains, wills are the positive side of this house while the negative side is long illnesses, cause of death, sexual and conjugal life.

The Ninth House

The father (though the tenth house should also be seen) spiritual tendencies, devotion, learning, pilgrimages, association with legal and religious personalities are the commonest factors seen fromhis house, It being the house of luck, a good ninth house improves a horoscope.

The Tenth House

One’s profession (the sixth house is also employment) fame, honors, respect, dignity and one’s achievements are seen from this house. The

Eleventh house

All types of gains, titles, honors, elder brothers and sisters, business profits are to be seen.

The Twelfth House Loss, expenditure, waste etc. are the traditional factors associated with this house. These days, foreign journeys, getting settled in a foreign country, trade with a foreign country, jail, imprisonment are necessary and inevitable events to be gleaned from this house. For spiritual practitioners this is the most important house for the promise of spiritual life and salvation. As has been stated, a long list of events and things to be seen from each of the house can be compiled in hundreds of pages. What has been given here is for day to day use only.

Spirituality associated with Houses

SHRI YUKTESWAR JI
Spirituality associated with Houses

In delineating the effects of each house, the start should again be made with the spiritual promise of each house. By each house from the Lagna which is always the first house. Thus, for a person born with Meena lagna the first house is Meena, the second house Mesha and the

twelveth house Kumbha etc.

Since spiritual astrology is generally kept a secret and astrologers do not pay attention to it, emphasis should be laid on this aspect both for the spiritual guidance of the person concerned and for preparation for a fine spiritual era into which mankind will enter after 2002 A.D.

The First House

The first house representing oneself, shows the beginning of awareness of spiritual side of human life. If three or more planets are in the first house, such persons, inspite of all distractions, can practice self-control with determination, and successfully.

From the first house springs the desire to enjoy peace generally and the tendency to renounce because the first stage of renunciation is physical.

To understand it, the Four Purusharthas of classical Indian tradition should be understood.

The first one is Dharma (religious conduct),

the second is Artha (the desire to earn money),

the third is the Kaama to enjoy life physically

and the last is Moksha to make efforts to get salvation.

In Hindu astrology therefore starting from the lagna there are four trines for each the purusharthas which are: Dharma, Artha, Kaama, Moksha Lagna Second houseThird house- Fourth house Fifth house Sixth house- Seventh house Eighth house Ninth house- Tenth house Eleventh house Twelfth house respectively.

There is another set of four trines which depends on the division of human life into four parts,

Brahmacharya (life of celibacy) Grihastha (the life of a householder) Vanaprastha (detaching oneself) from house-holder’s duties) and Sanyas (life of renunciation). The scheme of division is the same as in the earlier trines. Brahmacharya Grihastha Vanaprastha Sanyas The first house Second house Third house Fourth house Fifthe house Sixth house Seventh house Eighth house Ninth house Tenth house Eleventh house Twelfth house.

In judging the spiritual importance of each of these houses, these trines should be kept in the mind. It is always important to remember that the lagna and lord must not be ill-placed (in the eighth house, the sixth house or the twelfth house) and must not be afflicted by Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu particularly through conjunction or aspect.

In such a case the health may be bad. It is sound health that alone ensures any type of achievement in anyone’s life, including spiritual achievements. It is in rare cases that a person with ill health but strong sense of renunciation can be spiritually exalted. But we must proceed on the premise that it is sound health that is the foundation of even good spiritual life.

The Second House

The family environment gives to one some spiritual tendencies, which is what the second house represents, being the house of Kutumba (or the family one is brought up in). Faith in religious and spiritual traditions are inherited and also acquired generally from parents. The second house represents it, besides, it also being the house of speech, see the planets (particularly Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) with out affliction to examine whether one has the tendency to speak truth or false hood.

The second also being the house of earnings, monetary gains etc., the charity one does with money and gifts are also to be seen form the second house.

Note : In this respect the role of the twelfth house is more important.

The Third House

The third house known as the house of valour and courage becomes favorable if there is a malefic like Rahu, Saturn, Mars, Ketu in it. It shows a determination to apply oneself to spiritual practices with strong will.

Note : The third house, according to Maharshi Parashara, is the house of upadesha or religious preaching. The third house also is to be seen for short and quick pilgrimages.

According to the Uttrta-kalamrita, the third house represents the part of the palm which is between the thumb and the index finger with which many rituals are performed.

The Fourth House

The fourth house representing buildings, represents the religious-philanthropic institutions one builds and also the trusts one creates or religious, philanthropic and other good trusts with the money one has.

In the life of an individual the fourth house represents his desire to pursue his spiritual life in the quiet surroundings of a place, house or ashram with rhythmic regularity. In the case of a yogi it can represent pranayama or breath-control. But if such a house is disturbed, such persons find that by moving from one place to another only they can follow their spiritual pursuits.

The Fifth House

An important principle of Hindu astrology is that if a planet aspects its own house, that house gets strengthened.

This should be seen very closely in the case of the fifth house around which revolves the realization of the potency of mantra, yantra, because this house is important in two ways: in the case of the individual whose horoscope is being examined, it represents the spiritual merit of his past life and in the case of his father, it is the house of his spiritual merit of his present life. It is a good fifth house that bestows viveka or a sense of discrimination and deep spiritual wisdom born both of the reading of scriptures and spirituals practices.

The Sixth House

In the life of a spiritual practitioner fifteen types of distractions are normal. More often than not these take a person away from the desired spiritual path. To overcome such distractions, a malefic in the sixth house is always good. As it is, a malefic in the sixth house is good for ensuring sound health and the tenacity to overcome obstacles. In spiritual life this house helps in developing one pointed concentration.

The Seventh House

This house of sex is also the house of sex-sublimination. It is when the kundalini power rises high that sexual lust gets transformed into love and a sadhak feel the spiritual vibrations of the rising kundalini.

The Eighth House

It should be noticed that the fourth house is the house of spirituality and salvation in the trines given before. The eighth house is the second of such house, but being a secret house (eighth house is a hidden house) one practices one’s sadhana in secluded and cloistered places. It is true that this house also represents agonies which must include spiritual disappointments in the act attaining a blissful state of samadhi.

The Ninth House

Next to the fifth house, the house on which all astrologers lay greatest stress for spiritual development is the ninth house. Yet, there is a controversy among astrologers whether it is the ninth house or the fifth house that is to be seen for the spiritual merit of the past life.

While majority of astrologers see the fifth house or the merit of the past life, it is also logical to see that after the eighth house of samadhi that the spiritual merit of this life blossoms out. The ninth house therefore is to be examined for all acts of penance, pilgrimage, worship of gods. It is the house which represented the last stage of full spiritual development, after which one can become a guru or a spiritual guide. This house also is for father, who is one of the early gurus of a child.

Note : The fourth house which is the first house of the moksha triangle represents mother which is why serving one’s mother is the service to adi-guru (the first guru).

The ninth house, the last of the dharma triangle, shows the importance of service to one’s father, as the key-note of religious progress. It is for this reason that the Sanskrit saying, “Matri devo bhava” (let mother be the goddess) and “Pitro devo bhava” (let father be the god) is the eternal lesson children are taught to lay poper foundation of their spiritual life. Inferentially, those who are cruel to their parents cannot hope to be spiritually successful in their practices. This is a harsh spiritual reality which will not be palatable to many modern young people. Yet an astrologer cannot afford to overlook this.

The Tenth House

The tenth house is the house of those deeds which are noticed. A person who has potentised a mantra and has become a guru, wins social recognition through his deeds (even misdeeds). It is for this reason that Jupiter, the greatest benefic is preferred most in this house for holy deeds because the tenth house is the house of religious, spiritual and ritualistic deeds.

Note : In the case of a guru the tenth house shows the quality of his deeds, along with the lord of the tenth house.

The Eleventh House

In a spiritual sense, the eleventh house is a very enigmatic house. Benefics in it will attract one to worship of many gods and great scriptural scholarship and authorship. Many planets in it will bring, as donations to a guru, lot of money as the eleventh house is the last of the kama triangle or desires. Such desires can be good and evil. The eleventh house is thus the house of the last of the temptations a religious person has to face, which must be overcome to reach the final destination, salvation.

The Twelfth House

The twelfth house, the condition of the twelfth lord and Ketu are the salvation giving factors. A bad twelfth house can ruin all the spiritual promises of an otherwise good horoscope.

Note : What has been given so far here is only a bare outline of the spiritual promise inherent in a horoscope. These very promises are to be examined in greater details through many other finer analyses. The use of Vimshamsha (one- twentieth division horoscope) will have to be brought into use. Jaimini astrology should be used before any predictions about anyone’s spiritual life is given otherwise, spiritual astrology more often than not becomes a wild goose chase. Note : A safe and sound method which an astrologer can adopt is to make a proper use of the navamsha (one ninth) division of a horoscope and examine the fifth and the ninth lords and houses of navamsha and then the twelfth lord. Together with all this, the most important factor in the spiritual evolution of a person is to see what (dasha in Vimshottari ) sequence one has got in life. The most favorable periods are the periods of the fifth and the ninth lords.

Spiritual Qualities of Planets

ParamhansaTotapuri Maharaj
Spiritual Qualities of Planets

India which is the land of the origin of four of the seven world religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism and has the most efficacious and numerous sadhanas (spiritual practices), has also given to the world the yoga system which is popular all over the world. Very few astrologers know that Hindu astrology is the most developed spiritual astrology which is somehow, till now, kept as a great secret with the saints of India.

Yet in some books of astrology, which is a different branch of astrology than the one being discussed here, there are many more hints about the spiritual side of human personality.

Yet rarely people in India go to astrologer to ask questions about their spiritual life for a very excellent reason. The people of India have the supreme advantage of learning their spiritual lessons, first at home from the elders in childhood, later they seek the guidance of some spiritual person, saints, yogis, gurus and other holy persons. Then they have the supreme advantage of reading such rare spiritual literatures, in the Ramayan, the Mahabharata and the Puranas that they get most of the answers to their spiritual questions from these books.

In U.S.A. and with people from the west coming to consult  in India has been that they seek answers which are sometimes quite ticklish because they have got interested in spiritual practices and, have rarely been in so advantageous position as Indianhas of getting spiritual guidance form so many sources and so many persons.

To fulfill that need in discussing the nature of planets it becomes necessary to start with the spiritual qualities of planets. What is being listed below is not exhaustive but is sound enough for practical use by astrologer and lovers of astrology. An exhaustive list has been added to the book at the end.

What spiritual qualities each planet (the nine we are using) represents is being given briefly.

Sun

The Sun, lord of our solar system, has been identified in some Sanskrit stotras as Lord Vishnu but generally, it is with Lord Shiva that he is identified. It does not matter which of the Trinity he represents. The important point to remember is that he awakens the thirst for spiritual life, blesses one with divine knowledge, described as Gyana, which is why he has been described as Atmakaraka also (not Jaimini astrology where a planet with the highest degree becomes the Atmakaraka). Therefore, Sun is associated with philanthropic tendencies and has a Sattwick nature.

Moon

If the Sun is the atma (soul), the Moon is the Manas or the mind.Mental qualities are represented by the Moon. It is the mind that creates the feeling of happiness or unhappiness. A mind that is under control is a mind that develops powers of concentration and meditation. A Moon afflicted by Saturn and Mars creates strong feelings of detachment or vairagya. In the horoscopes of great yogis and saints this combination is generally seen. I have referred to many such horoscopes in my books, particularly, in the Yogis, Destiny and the Wheel of Time.

Pure spiritual tendencies, love to go to sacred places, worshipping Goddess, kindness, soft and tender feelings born of Sattwick nature are associated with the Moon. It is for this reason that a strong, exalted or vargottama Moon has always been praised.

Mars

"Bhoomi-suto", is a well-known synomym for Mars meaning the child of the earth. Also known as the commander in chief, Mars represents the determination to do sadhana, if such promises exist in any horoscope. He represents Lord Vishnu and his various forms. Among the Vedas he has been identified with the Sama Veda.

It is my experience that in the case of any guru, where he (Mars) influences the 4th or the 10th houses, he builds ashrams. In the 5th house, Mars gives the drive to become the builder of religious institution. Builders, estate agents have to have a prominent Mars influencing their 4th or 10th houses or their lords. Extend it to men in religious and spiritual line and you will see builders of ashrams, temples, mosques, churches, synagogues and religious institutions, with a strong desire to acquire land and building .

Mercury

Maharshi Parashara prescribes recitation of the Vishnu Sahastranaama in the periods of Mercury. The identification of Mercury with Lord Vishnu being so clear, a strong and well-placed Mercury, (in the spiritual houses, like 4, 8,12 or the Dharma houses like 1, 5, 9 gives a deep yearning for the study of scriptures and also astrology which is a divine science, being the most prominent Vedanga.

Mercury generally causes the undertaking of pilgrimages but not for a long stay. To build temples of Lord Vishnu is a well-known quality of Mercury. The manifestations of Lord Vishnu in all forms being the identity of Mercury, he is a Vaishnava par excellence. Mercury promotes a strong tendency to acquire self-control. Mercury being a ritualist, attraction for mantras and Yantras is a well known tendency released by Mercury. He represents Atharva Veda

Jupiter

In astrology, if Jupiter and Mercury are not good, one will be a poor predictor. The house of speech, the second house, getting associated with Jupiter through position or aspect shows gifts of prophecy, unless the second house or the second lord are bad otherwise. It also makes one a good preacher. A preacher has to have knowledge of scriptures suppoted by personal spiritual experience.

Jupiter represents the quintessence of dharma. The finer aspects of divine knowledge and spiritual practices like penances, worship of god, doing of charity are commonly associated with Jupiter. Varahamihira has praised the position of Jupiter in the 10th house. Being a strict moralist, Jupiter motivates one to be ethical in conduct. Since Jupiter represents Lord Shiva, a Jupiter-dominated person does not mind making sacrifices for true religious and spiritual causes.

Venus

Traditionally, the Guru of Asuras, Venus is a learned religious person. Venusian traits can be showy. One may develop the tendency to turn his religious zeal into piety. I have seen hundreds of horoscopes of men and women with Venus in the 10th house becoming more showy than sincere in spiritual pursuits. Perhaps, distractions in their lives, caused by Venus are many. Among Vedas, Venus represent Yajur-Veda. The likeable and admirable side of Venus is love for religious songs, love to decorate religious places and compose music for, particularly female goddesses.

Saturn

Saturn described as the planet of misery is a totally fallacious statement. Without a favourable Saturn in the birth horoscope and in transit one can never develop deep detachment. Saturn represents self-abnegation, tyaga. It is tyaga and Gyana that become real strong foundation for spiritual life. A weak Saturn has been seen to attract a sadhak, if there is also afflicted Moon, attraction towards inferior deities.

Rahu

Rahu has been praised by Ramanujacharya for dips in the Ganga Moon If the Sun is the atma (soul), the Moon is the Manas or the mind. and going to pilgrimages because he is an extrovert, unlike Ketu, who makes one an introvert. Rahu impels one to take to religious and spiritual practices many times in a rather unconventional way and, can cause attraction for non-conventional religious approach.

Ketu

It is difficult to decide who between Jupiter and Ketu is a better salvation-giver. Yet, Ketu has been called the salvation-giver because he is the embodiment of subtlest divine secrets. Ketu in the twelfth has been praised. Ketu always attracts one towards seclusion, observance of mouna the vow of silence. The Dasha Avatara There is one and only one God as the great Narayana Kavacham in the Srimad Bhagvatam emphsises. The Lord, being playful, assumes many shapes, foms always. He adorns himself with various weapons. The Brihat Parashara Shatra, world’s greatest astrological classic, refers to the nine incarnations of God about which we know and also refers to the tenth Incarnation as God Kalki.

Retrograde planets

When you hear RETROGRADE, you may panic, even just a bit. You may have heard of bad omens connected with times of Retrograde and the first thing you may think is: potential for problems and limited progress. Retrogrades happen only from the perspective of Earth (called Geocentric). From the Sun's perspective (called Heliocentric), there are no Retrogrades, the planets continuously move in their orbits around the Sun. But from our perspective on the Earth, planets sometimes APPEAR to be going backwards. It's a sensory illusion, much like what happens when you're moving slowly in a train or car and another train or car going slower seems to be going backwards. From our perspective, the other planet seems to slow in its orbit. Right before a planet makes a Retrograde station (the point where it Retrogrades), it is at its farthest point in its orbit from the Earth. What actually happens when a planet Retrogrades is that it comes back closer to the Earth (and opposes the Sun).

Astrologically, Retrogrades happen when planets, and the energy they represent, are too far out and need to come back in line with the Earth. This is when you need to slow it down. You may need to take 1 step back now to take 2 steps forward later, and during a Retrograde, slowing down can be ultimately more productive and profitable than pushing on relentlessly ahead. When Retrogrades happen, things need to change, minds change, information changes, and people with Retrograde planets in their charts are here to create change and increase consciousness here on Earth. When you have Retrograde planets in your chart, people may not see you in your true glory, there's more to you than meets the eye.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury Retrogrades three times a year for three weeks each time. This is the time your thinking needs to come back in line with reality. If there's too much information coming in and you're thinking a few steps too far ahead, Mercury Retrograde is a time to process, digest, and organize what you've learned recently so you can understand what's going on and find ways to put what you know to good use. Review your ideas, edit your statements, write in your journal. This is a good time to figure things out, see things from a more internal perspective, and decide how to proceed so you can work and communicate more effectively.

Venus Retrograde

Retrograde Venus calls your values into question. You may have acquired new possessions or made more money recently, but what do you want to do with your wealth, your talents, your assets??? Your attractions may have drawn many potential friends and lovers, but who do you want in your life and how do you want to share? During Venus Retrograde you may get a better view of yourself by observing how you relate to others.

Mars Retrograde

When Mars is retrograde, you may need to slow down. But to do that, you may find yourself face to face with--- yourself. The urge to get what you want may be strong, but instead of rushing out to get what you want when you want it, you may need to take another look at what you're pursuing and how you're pursuing it. Is it really in line with what you want or is it an unhealthy competition that has you running in circles? Action is necessary, but what kind? You can can bring your desires in line with what you really want and gain more personal power if you learn to control your needs and master your energy by taking action only when and where needed. If you can bring your own burning agenda back in line with others, you may be able to deepen your intimate relationships and re-energize yourself.

Jupiter Retrograde

When Jupiter is Retrograde, expansion can become impeded and things that seemed sure can just stop. When external energy dries up, it's time to find inner wisdom and expand internal knowledge. This is the time to objectively look at your projects and see where you need to work harder and do more. Don't just sit there criticizing others, examine your own code of ethics and exercise your own integrity. Think about how much you do to *fit in* out of fear and what are truly your own goals and needs. Jupiter retrograde is when the things we think we need but aren't really adding to our growth, are somehow removed from our lives. The end result is beneficial and the quest to understand is the journey and the teaching.

Saturn Retrograde

Upsets and delays could become a normal part of life for the 4 and a half months Saturn is Retrograde. Extra time-consuming, unfinished *business* can unexpectedly come up that takes you away from your normal routine, adding extra responsibilities, commitments, and time-eaters to your days. Expectations of forward progress may have to be temporarily revised. It's time to ease up and take a good look around you. Whatever house of your horoscope Saturn is currently transiting through is where you will feel this effect. This is not the time to make bold new strides and start experimental projects. Instead, use this time to re-evaluate and strengthen what you are already doing. This retrograde can teach you new methods to structure your inner psychological workings by exposing your limiting, unproductive defense mechanisms. This knowledge can ultimately help you translate yourself and your work to the world in a lucid, more easily comprehensible way.

Uranus Retrograde

Uranus Retrograde is the time to tap into your innermost creative thoughts. There is a rich source of experimental new ideas, ready to be tested in the world. Find the method and media best suited to express your brand of genius or retrograding Uranus can make you feel anxious and uneasy. Start planning your personal quest for freedom and independence now.

Neptune Retrograde

Retrograde Neptune is a time when the boundaries between reality and illusion get blurry and the energy of the dream life becomes larger than real life. Since the dreams are so close you can touch them, use this time to delve into your dreams -- keep a dream diary in the medium of your choice. Your dreams are speaking louder and clearer than the usual murky surreal dream state. Listen to your intuitions, court your muse, and seek inspiration. While the energy is so transcendant, stay extra aware of your boundaries and borders.

Pluto Retrograde

The search for inner truth can be relentless during Pluto retrograde, but the deeper you can lean into it, the more compassion you'll be able to find for yourself and the further into self-knowledge and liberation this cycle will take you. Retrograding Pluto demands we purge whatever it touches (check your natal chart and all transits and progressions to see where Pluto effects you personally). The loss or empty space created can be disorienting, and this is how Pluto tests our ability to stay true to our path.

Mercury retrograde

Mercury Madness

At several points throughout the year most of us will be bombarded with the maddening effects of Mercury in retrograde. Mercury is a planet which governs all transportation and communication issues. Mercury is not an emotional planet, but rather a highly objective, truth-seeking one. It rules intelligence, education and truth. When it is in retrograde, some of its power is held back.

When Mercury starts turning in an apparent backward motion, we will start to feel the effects of this event days or even as far as two weeks earlier. When the planet normalizes we will see the tempo of events pick up in our lives as the planet becomes "stationary" and then speeds forward.

Gemini and Virgo are signs ruled by Mercury, so if you are one of those born during those months, you will be complaining especially loudly. If you work in the industries ruled by this planet such as sales, writing, public relations, advertising, publishing, air freight, the post office or express mail, any transportation industry, from the airlines to Amtrak, you'll also be especially vulnerable to this planet's weird motions in September. (If you are a Gemini, for example, who works in publishing, it's no use calling in for a month of mental health days--you can't escape!)

What happens when Mercury retrogrades? You miss appointments, your computer equipment crashes, checks get lost, you find the car you just purchased during Mercury retrograde is a lemon. (Or, you hate your haircut, the lamp you bought shorts out, your sister hates her birthday gift.) There will be countless delays, cancellations and postponements--but know these will benefit you in the long run. Don't fight them, although your frustration level and feeling of restlessness will be hard to cope with at times.

All machinery and things with moving parts--such as computers, VCRs, camera equipment, garbage disposals, and so forth, will reveal any weak links now. It is critical that you back up your data system and be more careful and vigilant than ever. Projects will demand more time and money than anticipated this month.

In matters of the heart, if your boyfriend or girlfriend breaks up with you or says something hurtful, take a wait-and-see attitude. Since Mercury rules speech, they may not mean what you think they are saying now. Let them have some space, and wait to see if they mean in October what they said in September.

When traveling, leave early and allow for extra travel time. Have all bags double-taped closed, count your belongings, double-check addresses and reconfirm appointments. Things get lost when Mercury messes us up. Take NOTHING for granted. The sector of your chart that Mercury happens to be skating through will be effected most dramatically, so check your forecast!

Why would the Universe give us Mercury retrograde? Because to move forward it is sometimes necessary to backtrack and reconfigure our paths in life. It is important to reconsider, repair, reflect, and reconnect. Mercury forces us to slow down and fix what's broken, and in so doing, rethink things. It also gives us time to get to projects we have put on the back-burner.

Some activities are lucky or actually improve when Mercury retrogrades. You are likely to bump into old friends that you haven't seen in years. Adopted children tend to find their birth parents during Mercury retrograde periods, or people locate their long lost siblings. Prosecutors often find clues to crimes that had previously remained unsolved for years. (Although sometimes the reverse is true--there is a greater danger, or example, that police can bungle evidence during a Mercury retrograde period, for clear thinking doesn't come easy for any of us then.) Mail that went astray weeks or even years ago shows up during Mercury retrograde. Some things that were lost reappear.

Now is also a good time to dress old wounds, clean up relationships or to simply bury the hatchet. Some people have great breakthroughs in psychotherapy during a Mercury retrograde period. For salesman, it is a positive time to backtrack over previous contacts rather than call on new ones. It is a perfect time to schedule work on projects that you haven't had time to do and you've let pile up. Bring your resume or portfolio up to date, and clean out your closets. Take time to paint the house. Clear your decks.

Just try not to start new things. If you have to start a job during a Mercury retrograde period know that the nature of the job is likely to change dramatically over time. Perhaps the person you report to will leave, or your responsibilities will be very different from what you thought they would be. Or your company won't be ready to take you on, and you won't have much to do until things are reorganized. But remember, if this was a position that you tried for in the past, then you've got the vibes working for you rather than against you.

Finally, what about people born with Mercury retrograde? If you are due to give birth to a baby during this period, don't fret. The ancients felt that this aspect lends a more philosophical tone to the character. Mercury rules thinking, therefore an individual born with this aspect tends to reflect deeply over events and issues throughout their lifetimes. In this case, having this aspect could be a big plus! Many  astrologer was born with Mercury retrograde--so relax

How ashram was run

How ashram was run :A Hidden Pattern

"Osho,

The other day I came through the gates with an Indian sannyasin and he was turned away by the guard with no reason given. When I spoke to Laxmi about it, she more or less told me to mind my own business. Whenever I see people being unjustly treated, my immediate reaction is to go to their assistance. Is it really none of my business what happens to other people?

'The question is from Ma Deva Tulika.

This is significant for everybody present here, and everybody who is going to be in any way related to me. Whatsoever happens in this commune happens according to me. I know who was turned from the gate. And the man who has been turned away knows why he has been turned from the gate. And it is none of your business to come into it.

This you have to understand absolutely, that whatsoever happens here... I may not come out of my room, I never come out except in the morning and the evening, and I never go around the ashram - but whatsoever happens here is perfectly known to me, is happening according to me. Please don't interfere.

There are a few other people also like Tulika who are continuously interfering with the work. You are nobody to judge what is right and what is wrong. If you know it already you are not needed here, you have become enlightened - you go home.

This is none of your business to decide what is just and what is unjust. This is not an ordinary place so ordinary things won't apply here. Some extraordinary experiment is on. I know what is somebody's need. If I feel that somebody has to be rejected from the gate, he has to be rejected. If I feel that no reason has to be given, then no reason has to be given. That's my device for his life and for his work.

Now you should not come into it. If you start coming into it you will only lose your opportunity for growth. Guards have their duties, they know what they are doing. And I am in contact with them, with what they are doing. You simply bypass.

It is not an ordinary place. Everything is looked after, and if somebody needs a hit on the head, he is given. You should not prevent it, otherwise you will be coming into his growth too, you will hinder him, and you will be hindering yourself. And you can get unnecessarily excited about it.

There are a few people - Padma Sambhava is one. They go on writing to me that this has happened and somebody has done this and this should not be. Here you are nobody to decide what should be and what should not be. The moment you become part of my commune you leave everything to me; otherwise work will be impossible.

Now I know the man who has been rejected and I know why he is rejected - and he also knows why he has been rejected. There is no reason to give any reason. If reasons have to be given for each and every thing, then my whole work will be simply to go on supplying reasons. There are thousands of people coming, and everybody has to be given reasons and explanations about everything? Laxmi is right.

And always remember that Laxmi never does anything on her own. She is a perfect vehicle. That's why she has been chosen for that work. Now I cannot choose Tulika for work, because she has her own idea what is right and what is wrong. Laxmi has no idea. She simply listens and does. Whatsoever is said, she does.

And you have to learn these ways, because soon we will be becoming a bigger commune and thousands of people will be coming, and these things have to be settled. You should not bring them again and again. Again and again you go on writing questions: "Somebody has done this...." That is for me to look to, and if I think that it is not right it will be prevented. You need not bring it to my notice even. You waste my time.

And you get so excited.... There are some foolish people who have renounced their sannyas because they saw something unjust was being done. Now they're just losing their opportunity. It was not their business. You have come here for your own growth. This acceptance has to be total, only then work is possible, only then I can help you. Please don't give suggestions to me. The moment you give me a suggestion, you are disconnected from me.

This is not going to be a democracy. You are not to be asked what should be done and what should not be done. This should be remembered from the very beginning - that this is not going to be a democracy. Your votes will never be taken. You become part of it with that knowledge, that whatsoever I decide is absolute. If you don't choose that way you are perfectly happy to leave.

People are prevented from entering but nobody is prevented from leaving. You can leave. Have you seen anybody being prevented from leaving? Leaving is perfectly free - you are free, that is your decision. If you want to be here you have to be totally here. If you feel that this is not the place for you, that your ideas are not being fulfilled, that it is not according to you, you are free to leave.

This place will never be according to you. This place is to change you, it is not to be according to you. This place is going to be a transformation for you. And these are the beginnings. Who are you to know what is right and what is wrong? And who are you to ask for the reason? How do you come in?

The Indian who has been prevented, if he feels like asking he will come and ask. He has not asked because he knows, he has been told why he is being prevented. He has been a nuisance around here. But these things are not to be inquired about by everybody. And this is not good, that everybody should be told about this nuisance. This is disrespectful to him. He has been told, and he understands because he knows what he has been doing.

Now YOU suddenly jump in. You think you are doing some great work, some great service. You think you are saving some person from some injustice. You don't know the whole story. And you need not know the whole story, because who is sitting there to tell you all the stories about everybody? You decide only about your own self.

This is a place where many things will never be according to you. You have to fall in tune with things. If you think that that is not possible for you, you are free to leave.

And let this be the last question. Many questions have been coming to me. Somebody participates in a group and writes, "Why is there so much violence in the encounter group?" And that comes from a groupleader, a woman who has been a groupleader. She participated for one or two days in the Encounter group and dropped out.

And she had asked for it. I was not going to give her the encounter group, I was giving her some other groups, but she asked, "I want to do the encounter." So I said "Okay." But when I say, "Okay," you should understand what I mean. I mean that then it is for you to decide.

She thinks she knows because she is a groupleader. She has been leading groups so she thinks she knows. And I knew that very moment that she would not be able to go through it, because the encounter group that is going on here is the best in the world at this moment. Nowhere else is such absolute freedom allowed.

In the West the encounter group has limitations, because the encounter groupleader has limitations. He can go only so far. When he sees that things are becoming difficult, that now he may not be able to control, that things may go too far, that he may not be able to bring them back, then he prevents. Here we don't believe in any boundaries.

I send people to the encounter group only when I see that now they understand that they have to go beyond all boundaries - boundaries of sex, boundaries of violence, anger, rage. They have to break all boundaries. That is breakthrough - when all those boundaries break down.

Now the woman became very much afraid, now she is against the group. Now she is asking me, "Why do you allow such violence?" That is not your business. If you are not capable of going into it, you are not required to go into it, mm? You can do some non-violent group - Zazen, Vipassana. We have all kinds of toys around here. Mm? you can choose.

But don't go on writing to me. Whatsoever happens here is happening with my knowledge. Not a single thing happens here which is not known to me, so you need not inform me about things, I know them already. It is a sheer wastage of time.

And the moment you surrender and become an initiate, a sannyasin, that surrender has to be total. Just live a few months in that total surrender and you will see - it is alchemical, it transforms you.

New people come and they think, "What is the matter? The old sannyasins don't interfere. Somebody is prevented by the guard and the old sannyasins simply go by. What has happened to these people? Do they understand or not that this is not right? Have they become apathetic, indifferent?"

No, they have learned, and they have learned just like you. Slowly slowly they have learned that whatsoever happens is happening according to a plan, a device. There is some hidden pattern in it. And nobody except me knows what that hidden pattern is. So you cannot go to Laxmi, she does not know. She simply asks me what is to be done and she does it. You cannot ask Sant on the gate, "What are you doing?" He simply does what he is told to do.

If you are to be a part of this commune you have to understand this. You have to relax, you have to stop judging. Soon, after a few months of relaxation and acceptance, you will be able to understand. That's what has happened to the older sannyasins - now they understand.
